Grade 4 Math Expectations
Math Instruction: Math in Grade 4 will be taught for 80 minutes each day. Math lessons will include both whole group and small group instruction. Manipulative tools and iPads will be used daily to increase engagement and understanding of students.

Additionally, apps such as Front Row and Stride Academy can be used at home as well as in school to practice math skills (links to these sites can be found under the Tools tab above).

- I try to figure out math problems, even when they are hard.
- I use numbers and symbols to show math.
- I can explain how to do math.
- I can show math ideas with blocks, counters, drawings, and other materials.
- I can decide which math tools to use.
- I try to be exact when I add and subtract.
- I think about numbers and patterns to help me find answers.
- I notice when something happens over and over.

Math Facts: The WCPS Math Fact program was redesigned and restructured for the 2015-2016 school year; the new program aligns more closely with the Common Core standards found on students' report cards. If necessary, math facts will be re-taught in small groups, and they will be integrated into daily math instruction throughout the year. Students in Grade 4 are expected to know and maintain mastery of all 30 math fact levels.
